Remarkable times call for remarkable change. It's not enough to know a lot about a little, you need to be able to span boundaries and find opportunity in chaos, even if it means you having to risk destruction by breaking with the rules of the past. This is a blog of ideas that challenge conventional thinking about people, technology and the rules that got us here.

There's nothing wrong with standing out

In Silicon Valley, Socks Make the Tech Entrepreneur - NYTimes.com: Claire Cain Miller (gotta love a double barrel surname!) wrote about how sartorial splendour is finally reaching the capital of chinos and neck beards.

What's the relevance to this blog? Two things;

  • Those who know me well know that I acquired the nickname "Fance" (short for Fancy Pants) after one of my drier colleagues noticed my garishly adorned ankles (why he was looking there is another matter altogether). I'm just thrilled to know that I'm not the only one!

  • I think the idea of deviating and differentiating from what has slowly degraded into the idea of "dress sense" by having some harmless, perhaps even thoughtful, fun is very "xthestreams" and, dare I say it, might bring some happiness to work.

standout

More than ever having a sense of functional beauty is differentiating companies. Not since the renaissance has our culture been more design driven, it's hard not to notice an enhanced sense of the aesthetic that now   permeates modern business.

Doesn't it make sense that we should be starting with ourselves. Time to char the chinos gents or are you incomplete without your pleats?
